JOOUST Signs an MOU with inLEGAS to Advance German Language Training and Certification
Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Independent Language Examinations for Germany, Austria & Switzerland (inLEGAS), marking a significant step toward strengthening international collaboration and enhancing language education in Kenya.
The agreement brings together JOOUST, based in Bondo, Kenya, and inLEGAS, into a strategic partnership aimed at expanding access to globally recognised German-language examinations and professional training opportunities.
Under the terms of the MoU, JOOUST will serve as a potential venue and partner institution for the administration of both mock and official Österreichisches Sprachdiplom (ÖSD) German language examinations. This initiative is expected to benefit students and professionals seeking internationally accredited language certification, which is increasingly essential for academic pursuits, employment, and migration opportunities in German-speaking countries.
In addition, inLEGAS will provide specialised training for German-language instructors affiliated with JOOUST, enabling them to become certified ÖSD examiners. This capacity-building component is a key aspect of the partnership, as it will enhance the university’s ability to deliver high-quality language instruction and assessment services.
Speaking on the partnership, Mr Peter Hauck, the Pedagogical Director of inLEGAS, emphasised the importance of collaboration in fostering academic excellence and global engagement. The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Elijah Ateka, reiterated that the MoU aligns with JOOUST’s broader vision of internationalization and commitment to equipping students with competitive skills for the global job market.
The collaboration is expected to not only strengthen German language education at JOOUST but also position the university as a regional hub for language certification and training. By facilitating access to internationally recognized examinations and professional development opportunities, the partnership opens new pathways for students, educators, and the wider community.
The MOU was championed by the Dean of the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Prof.Samuel Okuro. In attendance were the Head of International Partnerships, Prof. Emily Ondondo,  Dr Elizabeth Odhiambo and Ms Keziah Ogada from the Directorate of Corporate Communication and Marketing.
