Ministry of Education Officers Assess JOOUST in Quality Evaluation Visit
The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) hosted a crucial evaluation exercise by officers from the Ministry of Education, aimed at assessing the institution’s standards in administration, learning environment, and overall performance.
The exercise, which brought together students, teaching staff, university administration, and the board, is part of a nationwide initiative by the Ministry to ensure that universities meet the expected quality benchmarks in higher education.
During the sessions, the officers engaged various stakeholders through interviews and discussions. They inquired about the availability of resources, quality of infrastructure, student welfare, and the overall conduciveness of the learning environment.
“This kind of assessment helps in identifying strengths and gaps within institutions,” said one of the officers. “We are not here to police, but to ensure that universities are running in line with national education goals and policies.”
The importance of such an evaluation cannot be overstated. For students, it ensures that they are learning in an environment that supports both academic and personal growth. For teaching and non-teaching staff, it promotes transparency, accountability, and better working conditions. For the administration, it provides valuable feedback for strategic planning and institutional development.
Most importantly, the process helps the government to align universities with global education standards, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the job market and other real-world challenges.
As higher education in Kenya continues to evolve, regular evaluations such as these are vital in building institutions that are not only competitive but also responsive to the needs of society.
